We will meet at Point Fermin Park parking lot (807 W Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro, CA 90731) at 11:30 - 11:45 AM and then take a very short walk to Point Fermin Lighthouse main entrance. We have a group tour of the Lighthouse reserved for a maximun 20 persons that will begin promptly at 12 Noon. The tour is docent led and takes about one hour. After the lighthouse tour we will either eat lunch at picnic area outside of lighthouse, or take a 6 minute hike (0.2 miles) to Angels Gate Park/Korean Friendship Bell and have lunch. This is a "pack your own" lunch, drinks, snacks outing!
After we have eaten/snacked and enjoyed Angels Gate Park, at approximately 2:20 PM we will return to our cars at Point Fermin Park and caravan to Point Vicente Interpretive Center (9.1 mile and about a 20 minute drive along the beautiful Palos Verdes Penninsula coast).
Once we arrive at Point Vicente Interpretive Center we will park, and then around 3:00 PM take a short self guided tour of the museum. Either bring your own binoculars or the museum will provide free loaner ones to you. Outside of the museum is the whale watching point where we will join the observation of the magnificent gray whales migrating in the waters just below these cliffs. The American Cetacean Society - Los Angeles Chapter (https://www.acs-la.org/volunt eers) will be conducting their daily census of the whales. We will be seeing the whales in the peak of their annual migration season between the Canadian/Alaskan Arctic to Southern Baja in Mexico and back. At approximately 4 PM we will take a 1.2 mile round trip hike along the breathtaking Seascape trail and end the outing around 4:30.
