Would you like to see the lights of Hollywood, Downtown, Burbank and the San Fernando Valley while hiking way above them during the full moon, without a flashlight? And maybe dinner afterwards in the company of warm & wonderful Great Outdoors and CMG friends? Then join us as we come together for their once-a-month "Thursday-Closest-to-the-Full-Moon Hike."
The LA Chapter continues the popular monthly Full Moon hikes in Griffith Park. Bring a friend, or meet some new ones, as we hike about 3 miles from the Griffith Park Observatory to the top of Mt Hollywood and back, enjoying airline views of Los Angeles and environs. Dogs are absolutely welcome, but must be on a leash. This is the same route as our Monday Night hike and is a moderate hike.
Event Cost: FREE -- there is no charge for this event. No need to RSVP - just join us!
Parking: There is free parking in the Griffith Park Observatory parking lot, but we strongly encourages carpooling and public transportation whenever possible! On busy summer nights, especially near the full moon [or if there is any other significant event in the sky, the lot fills up and you'll have to park along the road down the hill.
Hike: This easy 90-minute hike up Charlie Turner's Trail (with a few hundred feet elevation gain) takes us from the trailhead in the Griffith Park Observatory parking lot up past Dante's View to the spectacular views on the peak of Mt. Hollywood, which some refer to as the "McDaddy" of Los Angeles hiking trails. For more details on this trail, go to www.guidespot.com/guides/best_hiking_trails_in.
What to Bring: Comfortable walking/hiking shoes, water and a jacket . . . it gets cool at the top some evenings.
