This is the most perfect weather to enjoy the rolling green hills of the Upper Las Virgenes Open Space Preserve at the edge of the West San Fernando Valley. This gentle hike reveals a pastoral landscape protected by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.

Once owned by the Ahmanson family and known as Ahmanson Ranch, this wildlife preserve was the site where historic scenes from Gone with the Wind and many other movies were filmed.

The sprawling, expansive green space is teeming with fire roads, old ranch trails and is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists and equestrians of all abilities. We will meander through sagebrush-lined trails, gently ascending several grassy hills lined with mature oak trees, before eventually looping back. Recent rains have made the preserve particularly more lush and green than in recent years. Take advantage of our great spring weather hikes before the heat comes!
